Delighting Everyone Project

Delighting Everyone Project is an initiative by Toshiba Corporation aimed at providing shared access to electrical products and the underlying payment infrastructure in regions where power infrastructure is insufficient. Electrical devices are rented out through local shops, while usage management and payments are handled via a dedicated smartphone application. Since 2019, needs assessments and pilot demonstrations have been conducted in Pacific island nations. From 2023 onward, trial operations of LED lantern and portable battery sharing services have been continuously carried out across various regions of the Republic of Vanuatu.

Ginger provided technical support during the launch of this project, including the development of LED lanterns for rental use and the associated smartphone application.

Delighting Everyone Projectは、株式会社東芝による、電力インフラが整っていない地域において電気製品のシェアリングやその基盤となる決済インフラサービスの提供を目指すプロジェクトです。地域の商店で電気製品を貸し出し、専用のスマートフォンアプリで管理や決済を行います。2019年から太平洋の島嶼国を対象に、本サービスのニーズ調査や実証を進めており、2023年以降、バヌアツ共和国各地でLEDランタンや蓄電池のシェアリングサービスの試行を継続的に行っています。

Gingerは本プロジェクトの立ち上げにおいて、貸出用のLEDランタンやスマートフォンアプリの開発等に関する技術面でのサポートを行いました。

How It Works

Rather than merely supplying products, this initiative aims to establish a self-sustaining local economic system within the target regions. To achieve this, products such as LED lanterns are equipped with a locking mechanism that prevents power activation until payment is completed at local shops, after which the products become usable for a specified period.

Ginger supported both the hardware development of the locking mechanism and the software development required to unlock it via the smartphone application. These products have been deployed in actual field operations, and Ginger has also provided support related to mass production.

本事業では単なる製品の提供ではなく、対象地域で自律的な経済の仕組みを構築することを目標としています。そのため、LEDランタンなどの製品には電源が入らないようロックを掛けることができ、地域の商店で決済を行うことで一定時間使用可能になる仕組みが必要でした。

Gingerはこの製品にロックをかけるハードウェアの開発や、スマートフォンアプリからこれを解除するソフトウェアの開発において技術的なサポートを行いました。また、これらの仕組みが実装された製品は実際に現地で提供されており、弊社は量産に関するサポートも行っています。

Future Developments

This project has been succeeded by a newly established company, Radiant Technologies Inc., jointly founded by Toshiba Corporation, Vanguard Industries Inc., and Kyowa Kaiun Co., Ltd. The new company aims to create an environment in which local communities can access electricity easily and affordably.
